FROM OUR LOVELY CHEF:

#TARIACAMERINO

#TARIACAMERINO

Quite literally food is my life. Going hungry for most of my childhood impacted and confounded my already complex relationship with food. I am a Gustatory Synesthete, A Chef, Pastry Chef, Chocolatier, Herbalist, Plant Based Chef, and Confectioner. I have studied all aspects of ingredients in varied regions of the world, to better know myself. My experience of taste and flavor, how the vibration of each and everything around me translates into a meal, or a drink, or just a bowl of fresh strawberries can be difficult at times. Using this challenging gift, I have traveled down the expected path of being a Chef. While using my synesthesia to create art. Flavor Profiling bands at The Atlanta Contemporary, or creating a lollipop that taste like the first stanza of Beethoven’s 1812 Overture at the International Symposium of Nerogastronomy. I have trained under Chefs in France and Italy, Wagashi Makers and Bakers in Japan and Vietnam, Chocolatiers, Efficiency experts, and Intuitive Teachers. I have cooked at The James Beard House, in The TATE Modern, and for National Celebrities. But, some of my most treasured achievements didn’t happen in kitchens, they happened when I pushed myself into my own courage. While driving across the country, alone on a motorcycle that never should have made it. I drove 3500 miles across deserts, and salt flats, and through cities, never touching a freeway. I uncovered myself in a way that I am still understanding. I left the country for an around the world trip with only a thousand dollars, which put me in challenging circumstances, but some of the most beautiful, like when I found myself sleeping with the Shinjuku Box Men, in Tokyo. These same men I had seen in a photograph series by, Michael Wolf, some 4 years prior. To traveling all the way through Vietnam, to visit one Gallery, DOGMA, a committed archivist for the Communism Era Revolution Posters. It was this style of propaganda that informed the concept behind Sugar-Coated Radical. To find and visit this dedicated space. where I could watch footage and hear the stories of these artists was one of my most cherished accomplishments. And my most recent accomplishment, overcoming Breast Cancer. I have been training for this next phase of my career my whole life. There has never been a time where my relationship with food has ever been non-existent. It is quite frankly impossible. Once many years ago, some new neighbors asked me, if I ever talked about anything other than food. It had never occurred to me that I did this. I paused, thought about it a moment and replied, that no I couldn’t talk about anything other than food, but also why would I ever want to.
